Welcome to the Future....of my Blog!
Hello, and welcome to my blog! You can call me RT. I am a full-time student pursuing a Doctorate in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. My educational background includes Bachelors degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics, Business Administration, and Instrumental Arts Management. I also have a Masters in Cybersecurity. Currently, I work full-time as a cybersecurity compliance analyst. Outside of the typical retail and service jobs of a college student, I have also worked as an IT specialist and a SQL programmer.
I am working on improving my security knowledge through my doctoral education. I want to become an expert in my field and assist in improving the cybersecurity behaviors of average computer users. For my degree, I am taking a class called "Futuring and Innovation," which examines and predicts the future of technology and how innovative ideas are created. This class will teach me about how new technological ideas are developed. This will include the establishment of new ideas based on existing issues, predictions for future needs, and unintended usages for devices that have already been developed.
After completing the initial week of the Futuring and Innovation class and learning more about the class's subject matter, I was reminded of a series of books I had as a child called The Future is Wild. I also remember finding the VHS tapes at my local library for the Future is Wild show that was produced by the Discovery channel. The Future is Wild project was created by Joanna Adams, who worked with numerous natural scientists, to predict what life on Earth would look like million of years in the future. The researchers created an array of fantastical creatures based on what we know of evolution from fossil records and based on possible changes to the Earth's climate and environment.
Futuring in computer science utilizes similar concepts as The Future is Wild. Though we can't look millions of years into the future for technology, the idea of examining past concepts and ideas along with our current understanding of technology can be applied to predict our future technological growth. For this class and this blog, I would like to examine past predictions to see what concepts are similar between time periods, what differs, and what predictions have come to fruition. Through this examination, I can create ideas for future innovation and predict when "technology of the future" may become a reality. I also believe this examination can reveal interesting information regarding how societal trends during said time periods affects the views of the future.
I look forward to sharing my ideas through this blog and discovering what the future may hold!
